With the “Portafolio Award 2009”, Bavaria won its second environmental prize in four months (Translation)

1 December 2009

Bogotá, November 27th, 2009. Bavaria, S. A., leading beverages company in Colombia, received on Wednesday evening its second environmental award in less than four months, the "Portafolio1 Award 2009" in the category of Environmental Protection. The award acknowledges the company for its contribution to the defence and protection of natural resources, through the use of clean technologies and processes.

The support for Bavaria winning this award is based on the company's commitment with Colombia's social and environmental challenges, as well as because of its ten sustainable development priorities, of which five deal with environmental issues: making more beer with less water, reducing our energy and carbon footprint, packaging reuse and recycling, working towards zero-waste operations, and encouraging enterprise development in our value chains,

Fernando Jaramillo, vice-president of Corporate Affairs of Bavaria, who received the prize on behalf of the company, stated: "This is additional motivation to keep up our environmental efforts. It is a public acknowledgement which lets us know that we are walking down the right path."

The awards ceremony was held on Wednesday evening in a special ceremony carried out in Bogota's Club El Nogal, with the presence of President Álvaro Uribe Vélez, Foreign Commerce minister Luis Guillermo Plata, the winners, nearly fifty finalists and a select group of entrepreneurs, members of the academy, economic analysts and special guests from different sectors.

This is the second environmental award obtained by Bavaria over the past four months. On July 31, Bavaria won the National Award for Environmental Responsibility in the category of cleanest production, an acknowledgement organized by the Foundation for Sustainable Development "Siembra Colombia", which highlighted the company's efforts to maintain a balance between its operation and the environment and also for ratifying its commitment with the country's social and environmental challenges.
