One thousand study opportunities for tenderos’ children

Bogotá, October 19th, 2009. As part of its sustainable development initiative, Bavaria, S. A., leading beverages company in Colombia, will allocate ten billion ($10.000 million) pesos to support the technical careers of four thousand Colombian tenderos' (storekeepers) children. The programme "Bavaria Opportunities: Educational support for tenderos' children", will ease the access to technical careers for one thousand students in 2010 and for another 3,000 over the following three years.
Through this programme, geared towards the children of storekeepers from social brackets 1 and 2, Bavaria will sponsor up to 80% of the tuition fee; information on the pre-requisites for this support and on the required paperwork is available at www.bavaria.com.co. Those selected will be those sons and daughters of tenderos who have achieved the highest scores in the state exams - ICFES - and have been accepted or are attending a course in a technical institution approved by the Ministry of National Education.
Those students who benefited from the programme will not need a co-debtor, nor pay interest on the money they receive as support. Likewise, they will not have to start repayments until they find a job.
As well as the sponsorship, those selected will receive tutoring in study techniques from Lumni, from executives and other Bavaria employees.

In Bucaramanga, for example, a few weeks ago we presented a social micro-credit programme for storekeepers in depressed communities, which is already translating into wellbeing for them and their communities".
