History

1994

SABMiller is invited to participate in the privatisation of Zambian Breweries in 1994.

1998

Zambian Breweries plc (ZBL) is listed on the Lusaka Stock Exchange.

1999

ZBL acquires the Ndola Brewery.

SABMiller acquires National Breweries plc (NBL). NBL produces Chibuku, the traditional opaque beer made from maize and 30% is sold to the public through the stock exchange.

2002

ZBL acquires the Coca-Cola franchise for Zambia, which consists of bottling plants in Kitwe and Lusaka.

2003

The Lusaka operations are transferred to the ZBL site.

2009

SABMiller Africa acquires a non alcoholic maize beverage business with ‘Super Maheu No.1’, as its primary brand.

2011

US$260m investment programme to fund capacity expansion in Uganda, Ghana, Zambia and Tanzania announced in November.
