History
- 1994
SABMiller is invited to participate in the privatisation of Zambian Breweries in 1994.
- 1998

Zambian Breweries plc (ZBL) is listed on the Lusaka Stock Exchange.
- 1999
ZBL acquires the Ndola Brewery.
SABMiller acquires National Breweries plc (NBL). NBL produces Chibuku, the traditional opaque beer made from maize and 30% is sold to the public through the stock exchange.
- 2002

ZBL acquires the Coca-Cola franchise for Zambia, which consists of bottling plants in Kitwe and Lusaka.
- 2003
The Lusaka operations are transferred to the ZBL site.
- 2009
SABMiller Africa acquires a non alcoholic maize beverage business with ‘Super Maheu No.1’, as its primary brand.
- 2011
US$260m investment programme to fund capacity expansion in Uganda, Ghana, Zambia and Tanzania announced in November.

Alcohol responsibility

National campaign in Zambia
A recent billboard campaign aimed to promote responsible consumption to consumers in Lusaka. The billboards carried three key messages focusing on:
- Discouraging drink driving;
- Discouraging underage drinking; and
- Encouraging responsible consumption.
