History

1930

Tanganyika Breweries is established.

1964

At Union of Tanganyika and Zanzibar, the name is changed to Tanzanian Breweries (TBL). The company is nationalised between 1967 and 1974.

1993

SABMiller is invited to participate in an auction process to privatise 50% of the Tanzanian Breweries.

1995

Funding is secured to complete the Mwanza Brewery.

1998

The IPO of TBL on the Tanzanian Stock Exchange takes place.

2001

TBL acquires a fourth brewery in Moshi and agrees to brew and distribute EABL brands in Tanzania under a licence agreement.

2002

EABL takes a 20% shareholding in TBL and closes its Kibo subsidiary. Brands previously produced and sold by Kibo are now produced and sold under licence by TBL.

2010

New brewery in Mbeya successfully commissioned in the second half of the year.
Arrangement with East Africa Breweries (EABL) to brew and distribute their products terminated in final quarter of the year.

2011

TBL starts commences exports to Zambia.

US$260m investment programme to fund capacity expansion in Uganda, Ghana, Zambia and Tanzania announced in November.

EABL announces the disposal of its 20% shareholding in TBL by way of a public offer through the Dar-es-Salaam Stock Exchange.

2012

In January SABMiller acquired an additional 2.9% effective interest in TBL following the public offer, increasing our effective interest to 36%.
